Short-Term Getting Worse

The Aberdeen City multiple admission rate at 52.8 re-admissions per 1,000 population is well above trajectory of 33.9 per 100,000 by March 2009. This will continue to be monitored and measures instituted to align this with agreed trajectories through the ongoing City Intermediate care programme and long term conditions collaborative.

Due to the small numbers involved, care should be taken when assessing any apparent trends in the number of suicides. As year to year variation in the figures could result in apparently large percentage changes, the use of 3-5 year annual averages should provide a better indication of longer term trends. In order to meet the target, 751 City staff need to be trained by 2010. The total number of key frontline staff trained to date is 246. In Aberdeen 7 safe TALKS courses have been delivered to 89 staff and 3 ASIST courses delivered to 52 staff.

Target is to

‘Reduce suicide rate between 2002 and 2013 by 20%, supported by 50% of key frontline staff in mental health and substance misuse services, primary care and accident and emergency being educated and trained in using suicide assessment tools/ suicide prevention training programme by 2010’
