Lifelong Learning

The Remit:

  • To report on progress on the implementation of the Community Learning and Development strategy to The Aberdeen City Alliance.
  • To act as a high level Forum, representative of the main stakeholders in the City who have an interest in developing lifelong learning within the scope of the City's Community Planning Partnership.
  • To reduce the risk of duplication.
  • To focus on high priority developments where it is clear that partnership working adds value.
  • To ensure effective linking to regional partnerships concerned with lifelong learning.
  • To develop a coherent approach to tackling the major strategic issues related to lifelong learning in the City, in particular, Closing the Opportunity Gap in relation to educational attainment, health and addressing community regeneration priorities.
  • To influence the development of strategies and plans which relate to: - School education (3 - 18 curriculum including nursery, special, primary and secondary education) - Further and Higher education - Skills Development (linked to regional economic development priorities) - Community Learning & Development - Health and Wellbeing.
  • To report on progress in relation to; achievement and attainment, skills development, widening participation and inclusion, Equal Opportunities, progression in Learning, Health and Wellbeing.

 

The Forum:

Meets 4 times a year. This year the meetings were held on:

  • 27th September 2007
  • 28th June 2007
  • 29th November 2008
  • 21st February 2008

 

Forum Activity:

This year's Forum meetings were concerned with the following:   

  • Reporting back on More Choices More Chances funds and agreement for the use of them.
  • Reporting back on English for Speakers of Other Languages funds and agreement for the use of them.
  • Reporting back on Literacies Partnership business.
  • Discussion of Single Outcome Agreement and lack of ringfencing of literacies monies.
  • Reporting back on the effect of loss of almost £1 million from the CLD and adult learning/literacy budgets.
  • Planning and delivery of 4 workshops on outcome focused practice funded by Learning Connections.
  • Discussion on revision of Lifelong Learning Fund targets.
