Land Use

The Remit:

The Land Use Forum will:

  • Ensure that all stakeholders (including other relevant Challenge Forums) are regularly consulted on the challenge area, paying particular attention to consulting with communities and communities of interest.
  • Ensure that the widest possible range of interests are represented in the development of land use plans and policies.
  • Lead on land use for the City, by maintaining an overview of all the partnerships, strategies and plans in relation to the Community Plan.
  • Have a monitoring and co-ordinating role between different strategies in terms of their content and informing the timings of consultations and taking a general overview.
  • Be responsible for the delivery of the targets and actions in the Community Plan relating to land use.
  • Report regularly to The Aberdeen City Alliance on activity, progress towards targets and the development of new targets and actions.
  • Identify a realistic Action Plan for the implementation of the land use theme in the Community Plan.

The Forum:

4 steering group meetings and 4 Forum events a year.

Forum Activity:

  • The Forum held an event in March 2007 which raised awareness on the legislative changes to the planning system which will be brought about by the Planning etc. (Scotland) Act 2006.
  • The Forum held an event in May 2007 which explored issues relating to reducing carbon footprint and promoting principles of sustainable development.
  • In October 2007, the Forum held an event which informed members of the progress of the Local Plan for Aberdeen as well as an initial look at the issues facing the new draft Structure Plan for the North East.
  • In December 2007, the Forum met to identify its 3 main priorities that, from a land use perspective, should be addressed in the next Community Plan. These were then reported to the Community Planning annual conference in December.
  • The Forum met in March 2008 to debate and influence the future strategy of affordable housing provision in Aberdeen and explore issues relating to regeneration in the City. This was a joint meeting with the Homes Forum.
  • The Forum intends to meet in June 2008 where the new Draft Structure plan will be presented to members with information on how they can comment on the Plan.
  • The Forum will also hold events in October and December of 2008.
