Environmental Forum Targets 07-08

Environmental

Forum's Strategic Priorities, Objectives and Targets for 2008/09

  • To tackle climate change through assisting in carbon reduction projects, awareness raising and education.
  • To hold a seminar on waste issues within the City to coincide with the introduction of fortnightly waste collections.
  • To build up membership and raise the profile of the Forum.
  • To formalise the steering process and attract new members to the steering group that better reflect local environmental organisations.

Delivery of Targets

The Forum's priority is to tackle Climate Change through a programme of open public meetings and other events.  These events are attended by local businesses where they can gain knowledge of good practice and advice.

The Aberdeen City Alliance (TACA) and the Environmental Forum, with funding from the Business Environment Partnership North East (BEPNE) assisted in the research for the State of the Environment Report 2007.  This report is being used as the basis of current and future Strategic Environmental Assessments performed by Aberdeen City Council and is accessible through libraries, internet and various media.

Joint working to support the Aberdeen Environmental Forum has been important.  The creation of a joint learning post to support the Environmental Forum and develop and learn is a highlight to ensure sustainable people.

The Forum plans to work closely with the Aberdeenshire Environmental Forum and Aberdeen Forward in the future.

Barriers include:

The Forum has lost momentum over the past few years due to dwindling membership and a lack of action. This year we are trying to tackle this issue by electing a new Chairperson to take us forward and encourage membership.
