The Remit:

The Forum's objectives are:

to ensure that action is taken to protect and enhance the human and natural environment and to pass it on to future generations in the same if not a better state, and in furtherance of this the association will seek;

  1. To improve understanding of environmental issues amongst the public through a programme of open public meetings and other events.
  2. To advance education in and promote understanding of environmental issues in the wider community, including the City Council, service providers and the business community.
  3. To raise awareness of, and promote debate about, environmental issues both locally and internationally.
  4. To be a channel for promoting good ideas and good practice to agencies, groups and individuals.
  5. To assist projects that promote sustainable practices and lifestyles.
  6. To promote, consider and comment on issues and proposals affecting the environment.

The Forum: 

The Environmental Forum have held 4 general meetings in the period 2007/08.  The steering group has met 4 times since January 2008 and will continue to meet regularly. The Forum has a Constitution which was adopted in April 2008.

The Forum's steering group members will develop an action plan with input from all members of the Forum that will aim to reduce the local and global environmental impact of our consumption and production.  

 

Forum Activity

In April 2008, the Forum held a successful seminar tackling the issue of climate change through sustainable building practices.

It also submitted a response to the Scottish Climate Change Bill consultation as well as holding a joint meeting with the Land Use Forum which discussed the new draft Structure Plan for Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire.

The Forum have been raising the profile of the Environmental Forum by attending events such as the Fairtrade Fayre and the Highland Games.
