Active Aberdeen

Forum's Strategic Priorities, Objectives and Targets for 2008/09

The Forum is currently considering whether it wishes to adopt Fit for the Future, Aberdeen City Council's draft Sport and Physical Activity Strategy which is out for public consultation. The objectives of Fit for the Future are:

  • Promote and increase opportunities for participation in sport and physical activity by all communities of interest in Aberdeen.
  • Provide a comprehensive and high quality range of sports facilities in Aberdeen.
  • Maximise social, educational, health and economic benefits of sport and physical activity in Aberdeen.
  • Develop and sustain pathways which nurture local, regional and national sporting people to reach their potential.
  • Raise the profile of sport in Aberdeen.

Delivery of Targets

An action plan is currently being developed.

Barriers Include:

  • Time and capacity of the Forum Chair, Facilitator and members at a time of change and intensive workload demands at Aberdeen City Council.
  • Risk of changing priorities in City as a result of challenges currently facing the Local Authority.
  • Scope for a more detailed understanding of role of the Forum in relation to the community planning process.
  • Difficulties inherent in combining the strategic focus of some forum members with a more case specific and operational focus of others.
  • Ensuring the Forum makes a valuable and meaningful contribution to all Forum member's remits and agendas is a challenge.

Further work is needed to identify common ground between all forum members in terms of:

  • Strategic objectives
  • Operational remit
  • Targets and monitoring
  • Concerns and challenges

Once this work has been done (subject to capacity to do so) it will be easier to work together towards common objectives and to address common issues.
