Evidence Where Targets/Priorities/Objectives Have Contributed to Corporate/Business Plans of Partner Organisations:

Community Challenge 7 of Aberdeen City Council's Corporate Plan is An Active City which states that:

Aberdeen City Council will work with the people of Aberdeen and its Partner Organisations to ensure that all our citizens have the maximum opportunity to gain access to and participate in a wide range of sports and leisure activities, both formal and informal.

Main Successes of the Forum in 2006/07:

  • Completion of Aulton Pavilion and three MUGA (Multi-use) pitches in the City.
  • Completion and opening of Transition Extreme Sports.
  • Review of Active Aberdeen Strategy 2002-2007.
  • Establishment of the Aberdeen City & Shire 2012 Pre-Games Training Camps consortium, to date the only consortium based approach to securing an Olympic Games legacy in Scotland.
  • Input into development of new Regional Sports Facility.

Main Benefits of the Forum in 2006/07:

Overall benefits: Effective communication has been a major benefit of the Active Aberdeen Forum. The Forum has given members the opportunity to share information and develop ideas together.

Internal benefits: Internal benefits have included sharing knowledge and increasing partnership working between the Forum members.

Community benefits: The community benefits have been the provision of better quality services because the Forum members have had the opportunity to input into the way facilities are designed and run to ensure that the needs of the local community are met. The Forum has provided the opportunity for problems to be discussed allowing members to work together to resolve issues to the benefit of the community, one such example is flood lighting at pitches to enable the community to use pitches in the evening and winter months.

Community Involvement:

There were 3 Civic Forum representatives at meetings through to January 2007. Awaiting replacement representation. Various surveys have sought the views of the wider community.

Future Plans:

The Active Aberdeen Forum is currently reviewing the 2002-2007 Active Aberdeen Strategy and incorporating the lessons learnt into a new strategy that engages everyone in the future direction of sport and physical activity in Aberdeen.
