The Fairer Scotland Fund came into effect on the 1st April 2008, it is a new ring-fenced fund from the Scottish Government, distributed through Community Planning Partnerships (CPPs).
Its purpose is to tackle poverty and deprivation across Scotland. An allocation from the fund has been made to each local authority area to enable Community Planning Partnerships to 'tackle area based and individual poverty and to help more people access and sustain employment opportunities'.
This new fund replaces seven previous funding streams (Community Regeneration Fund; Community Voices Fund; Working for Families Fund; Changing Children's Services Fund (Social Inclusion element); Financial Inclusion Fund; Workforce Plus; More Choices, More Chances), thereby reducing bureaucracy and administration and allowing CPPs to get on with tackling poverty and deprivation.
