Aberdeen City Council's Senior Management Team for Social Care has recently agreed 5 priority areas for action with regard to supporting carers. They based this decision on recommendations from the Joint Future Carers Group, which includes representation from carers, voluntary sector carer support agencies, NHS Grampian and the City Council. These recommendations from the Joint Future Carers Group were, in turn, based on the two Have Your Say carer consultation events from the turn of last year in which you or colleagues may have participated.
This is a key time for social care and support to carers in Aberdeen and we are really keen to hear your views about how best to move forward. We have enclosed the list of priority areas as already agreed, a response form and Philip Cotterill's letter about the priorities (Philip is the Programme Director for Social Care in Aberdeen City Council). They are particularly interested to find out which are the most important priorities for you (please rate them from 1 to 5 with one being the most important). They would also like you to think about ways to progress towards the priorities set.Any ideas will be gratefully received.
Please return your form to Gordon Edgar at 74-76 Spring Garden, Aberdeen, AB25 1GN by Friday the 5th of December.Alternatively, you could email Gordon at gedgar@aberdeencity.gov.uk.If you would like to discuss this further, please feel free to call Gordon Edgar or Julie Thomson on (01224) 538055/538052. |
Improved Household Waste and Recycling Centre (Deadline: 30/1/09)
Consultees:- Residents living in the Bridge of Don area of Aberdeen
Purpose:- The initiative will focus on community led evaluation criteria when assessing potential locations to site a HWRC in the Bridge of Don area.
The Bridge of Don area is served by a Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) at Perwinnes Moss, Scotstown Road. This site is owned by Aberdeen City Council and operated by SITA UK Limited, a national waste management company, on behalf on Aberdeen City Council. HWRC are provided to offer residents a facility to dispose of large or bulky items that are not suitable for reuse, facilities for the disposal of 'difficult' wastes such as chemicals and oils and other additional recycling streams. The small size of the site means that facilities cannot be provided to offer local residents the opportunity to recycle wood, soils and rubble, household chemicals, paint and electrical items that are provided at other HWRC in the City. As part of the Waste Transformation Programme, a 29 step programme to improve waste management infrastructure, improve waste and recycling collection services, and develop long-term waste management solutions has been agreed. One element of this is to develop a new HWRC to serve the Bridge on Don area. Bridge of Don Consultation - Supporting Documents
New Household Waste and Recycling Centre (Deadline: 17/2/09)
Consultees:- Residents living in the West of the City.
Purpose:- To involve the local community in developing site evaluation assessment criteria when assessing potential locations for a HWRC in the West of the City.
Households in the West of the City are not currently served by a local Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC). The nearest sites are at Westhill or East Tullos. The four HWRCs in the City are owned by Aberdeen City Council and operated by SITA UK Limited, a national waste management company, on behalf on Aberdeen City Council. The Waste Transformation Programme, a 29 step programme to improve waste management infrastructure, improve waste and recycling collection services, and develop long-term waste management solutions has been agreed by Aberdeen City Council. One element of this is to develop a new HWRC to serve the West of the City. By providing a new facility, Aberdeen City Council aims to improve the facilities offered to local residents, improve the experience of visiting and using a HWRC and to improve significantly the recycling rate of the HWRC in the City.
