The Granite City Gathering – ‘Fit Noo and Fit Next?’

Aberdeen City Assembly 2006

The Aberdeen City Assemly 2006: 'The Granite City Gathering – ‘Fit Noo and Fit Next?’ took place on Saturday 7th October 2006 at the Cowdray Hall, Aberdeen from 12.30pm to 4.30pm.  This was an opportunity for citizens to have their ideas heard by a high profile group of City movers and shakers.  Lesley Riddoch was on hand to host the debate.

Around 60 people attended the 2006 event. To read the full feedback report, please click here.

The citizens were asked to choose the themes for the event:

The Themes for this years City Assembly have now been agreed and were chosen by you, as a Citizens of Aberdeen:

  • ‘Regeneration of the City’—how should our regeneration funds be spent, do you have ideas what should be regenerated, how do we choose?
  • ‘Where We Live’—e,g. environmental issues (littering, seagulls), safety, how it looks, can you go out at night?
  • ‘Getting and Being Involved in the City’—do you feel involved in planning for your city, what would make you want to be involved? what stops you getting your voice across? what would make it easier? would a city newspaper help?
  • ‘Things to See and Do in the City’—culture and arts, museums and galleries, modern art/sculptures, transport issues, are activities too expensive?

Aberdeen piloted a new ‘I-Texting’ tool for this event, which meant that people could text in their ideas directly to the organisers of the Assembly.
